Story Trailer Workshop

  • To inculcate a healthy reading culture amongst students where they will be encourage to read and appreciate local Tamil writer's work.
  • To expose students to the nuances of a trailer and hone students’ movie editing skills and techniques
The story trailer workshop was organized by Jurong West Secondary School for secondary school students in the West Zone. The workshop was conducted by Blacspice Media Solutions. The students created a one-minute trailer based on a short story from the book, “Kaalam Kadanthu Nirkum Padaippilakkiyangal”. This took place over the month of July in 2017.

  • To promote the love of Tamil Language amongst students.
  • To create an opportunity for students to learn beyond the classroom.

Types of competitions
P1 & P2 – Show and Tell, P3 & P4 – Character Impersonation, P5 & P6 – Interviewing a Celebrity

Each school sent 2 representatives from each school. Usually, such competitions are organized in such a way that students take part as individual competitors. For a change, students took part in pairs in this competition and had to display their spoken interactive skills in Tamil language. As such, this competition was different from the usual kind of competitions organized.

The competition engaged not just the participants but the audience as well. Students who participated, learnt how to be more confident and fluent in speaking the Tamil language while the audience had the opportunity to learn from them. The audience were also engaged in filler activities. They also participated by singing and sharing their views. The judges shared their feedback on the students’ participation which was beneficial for them. This gave them an opportunity to improve their spoken interaction skills.
